Biography
Richard Elszy is a passionate dance educator dedicated to training the next generation of dancers through his technical expertise and creative teaching methods. He studied at the University of California, Irvine, and in Chicago at Ruth Page Center, as well as Lou Conte Dance, honing his skills under the guidance of renowned master teachers such as Donald McKayle, Paula Morgan, and Larry Long.
As a technique teacher, choreographer, and the founder of “Building Blocks of Dance,” an innovative online dance technique program, he provides strategies that make complex concepts relatable for dancers ages 4 to adults. Over the past seven years, this program has successfully inspired hundreds of teachers across the US and globally.
With 23 years of teaching experience and two decades as the technical director of a nationally ranked dance studio, Richard focuses on building dancers’ foundations one step at a time. He emphasizes the importance of fundamental skills like posture, alignment, focus, stretch, and strength, preparing young dancers for the complexities of modern dance.
Based in Los Angeles, Richard travels extensively, teaching master classes in technique and choreography at dance studios, nationally known workshops, and dance conventions throughout the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Colombia. He has participated in prestigious events like the Immerse Artists Experience, Dance Masters of Michigan, and the Rhee Gold Dancelife Teachers Summit. His contributions to the dance community have earned him the “Believer Award” at the 2019 Be Boundless Summit and two national Industry Dance Awards.
Combining his deep understanding of technique with an innovative choreographic style, Richard creates unique class experiences for dancers of all levels. He is continuously seeking knowledge and looks forward to inspiring future generations of artists.
